Now that the last pond is finished I can relax. Here I am, fishing on my little dock. Just as Alice in Wonderland, I turned myself into a wee little frog, wearing my favorite 'pinafore' and I'm hoping to catch a fish. Look very, very closely under that water and you just might see a whale of a fish about to nibble the cork!

The second graders who come to visit the garden every fall and every spring especially love the few little whimsys that are in the garden. We have a pet cemetery that they think is really neat. A few days after their visit I will find in my mailbox the nicest handwritten thank you notes. The children have written these notes themselves and send them to me with the most entertaining drawings. Sometimes the drawings are of themselves, swimming up and down the stream, or swimming along with the fish. Not only do I get to have a hand in a small part of their education by teaching them things about nature...but my life is so much richer when I read their appreciative notes. To me, this is a testament as to why a garden needs to be shared.
