Beakon Village is for the birds! My husband, Al, is not a gardener, but believe me, he is my staunchest supporter. He does, however, love to buy bird houses and benches for the garden. So, we have many, many birdhouses placed throughout the acreage. These come from exotic places all over the world...like from Japan, Korea, China! (VBG). Then I blindly close my eyes when Al gets out the pruners! Because of his love for pruning something that is 'in the way' I must admit that we have a few unsightly plants with contorted branching! But very appreciatively, I confess here that if it were not for my husband's generosity in sharing me with this land of ours, none of this beautiful garden would be here!
I love the look of the 'country garden'...it definitely makes it easy to utilize inexpensive 'props' such as split rail fencing, interesting looking logs or deadwood. In some of my gardens these have become the perfect accompaniment for the plants. I'm not 'into' hardscaping such as brick walls. Why, if I was, I'd never be able to change my mind! Is that not my womanly prerogative?
What you see here is the beginning of the aggregate 'steps' that cross the Koi pond. I used large plastic drainage pipe, cut into 5 inch pieces, for the forms of these stepping stones. I embedded some 'U' shaped pieces of re-bar into the ground, leaving about 2 inches of the 'U' sticking above ground. Then I mixed my concrete, poured the mixture into the form and embedded some aztec gravel into the top while still very wet. VOILA! STEPPING STONES!

I then dug them up, scraped off the dirt from the bottom, and they were ready to set into the piers (concrete columns) that would support them.
